From Aspen Comics, David Wohl, Alex Lei, Siya Oum, Josh Reed.
The Executive Assistant Extinction event continues in this latest issue of Iris, and it is perfectly paired with the most recent issue of Executive Assistant Assassins. Be sure to read both issues to get all of the story!
This issue starts off with more troubles for Iris. She has to save her fake employer for her real employer, all of which must be done without exposing the truth. Plus there is another Executive Assistant blocking her from accomplishing any of this. All of this in just the first page! So many comics take their sweet ass time getting to any action but not Aspen Comics.
The longer this series continues the more I see the differences between the Assassins brought out by the different writers and artists. There were many discussions of the previous issue of Executive Assistant Assassins because of the water boarding scene with Rose. This issue shows that scene again and somehow this creative team takes an already disturbing scene and makes it worse. Its so upsetting that the previously villainous Rose becomes an incredibly sympathetic character.
Speaking of sympathetic though, everything falls apart for Iris in this issue and its going to be difficult to wait until the next issue. Iris has evolved into a leader and when the leader falls all hope appears lost. Knowing that there are a few more issues before the finale means just more pain ahead for she who is becoming the head assassin.
Alex Lei does an incredible job of showing every emotion on the ladies’ faces. Anger, determination and even incredible focus come through with no doubt over what emotion the creators were going for. The best is the previously mentioned torture scene with Rose. That right there is what fear looks like.
I’ve raved about Siya and Josh so many times but with reason. I cannot get over how good they are. Siya has inspired me to draw again and Josh makes every comic better with his touch.
Executive Assistant Iris #3 comes out on March 13th and you only have one excuse to not buy it. I’ll accept any fan waiting for the trade, because they are not strong enough to wait month in and month out for the next rise of this action packed roller coaster.
